Thinking of an active volcano, it is perhaps difficult to believe that inside the Etna park it is also possible to spend the night…

Hotels and shelters inside the Etna Park

Most of the accommodation facilities are located in the Etna villages. Among these, the closest and closest to the tourist resorts are the villages on the southern side (Nicolosi, Pedara, Trecastagni and Zafferana etnea), ideal for starting guided excursions or for reaching the Etna cableway. While on the northern side there are Linguaglossa Piedimonte, Casglione di Sicilia where a type of accommodation on a human scale is preferred (B&B, small hotels, farm holidays...). Then there are some high-altitude refuges always easily reachable by road network (in winter chains are mandatory!) always close to the tourist resorts on both sides. Among the most famous we mention the CAI refuges Rifugio Sapienza - which is in fact a comfortable renovated hotel - or the Citelli refuge on the north-east side or the Ragabo refuge in the pine forest of the same name, family-run. An alternative to what has been indicated, if you are not interested in reaching the tourist locations, can be to stay on the northern side in the medieval town of Randazzo. Here there are excellent agritourisms from where you can reach trekking itineraries that are not very frequented but very interesting.

The forest shelters

A separate discussion must be made for the forest shelters that would be better defined as bivouacs, as there is no manager. These are very characteristic buildings that are mainly located along the path of the Pista Altomontana. Some of these shelters are open to the public to find shelter or sleep a night for those who intend to go on multi-day treks. We refer you to the specific article among the Travel Tips
