In the most upstream part of fracture 1651, already described for Grotta Damiano, there is this large and impressive ravine, a few meters wide, about ten meters long and about 12 meters deep. Access is therefore only possible with specific speleological equipment and requires good experience. The presence of ice, perhaps perennial, has been noted on the bottom (5 November 2020). Towards the east, a channel opens up that extends for a few dozen meters. Near this cavity, a little further upstream, there is a modest cave, which is assumed to have been the "mother" eruptive vent, from the inside of which you can admire a valuable landscape setting on the north-west side of Etna (photo). At the same altitude as Abyss 1651, whose name is obviously suggested by the anxiety that leaning out over its edge inspires, about 100 meters in a northerly direction, there is another well cave of modest dimensions, accessible from an opening at its base.
