This cave is located on the lavas attributed to the 1764/5 eruption (Consultation of the Ingv geology map). It is a cavity divided and fragmented into several parts and accessible from as many openings (at least 4 entrances). The most obvious part is a large opening inside which, however, the channel immediately stops; to the right of this there is a further access to a large but low cave, not very easy to travel through. Exactly in the opposite direction, looking south towards Punta Lucia and the 1949 vents, another entrance opens up that allows access to a portion of the flow channel that we considered very unstable due to numerous collapses. The most interesting part, which also gives the cave its name, is located near the first opening; looking at this, at a distance of about 10 meters, on the left there is a hole, at the time of the visit (end of May 2021) with a lot of snow. You can still enter easily but it is assumed that in winter this entrance is not accessible. The first part of the hypogeum is a fairly large room, 5 meters wide and about ten meters deep. Here, both snow and ice were found, as well as two slabs of lava stone, also frozen, which by a strange coincidence were placed to form a seat, almost a comfortable armchair, hence the name given to it.
From this room you continue to a low narrowing that, once passed, allows you to visit the second portion of the cave of about 25/30 meters. In this part, consisting of a classic grotto, there are several cracks in the vault that allow the access of rays of light. No particular morphologies of recast or significant speleothems were detected.
