Our excursion to the summit craters is organized on the northern side of the volcano, less touristy than the southern side and one of the most beautiful places in terms of landscape of Etna, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We will meet the guide at 1800 meters (see meeting point below) and after a short briefing we will reach an altitude of 2900 with the use of special 4×4 vehicles. The trek will start from here and will take us to the edge of the summit craters in about 1,30/2 hours. Here, at 3260 meters above sea level, you will admire the surreal panorama inside the summit craters. The edge of Bocca Nuova is characterized by the bright colors of the sulfur concretions and other minerals, by the fumaroles and, if possible, by the eruptive activity. Unique landscapes that make this experience on the most active and largest volcano in Europe special. You will also find yourself on the highest point of the island and can therefore enjoy a breathtaking view of a good part of Sicily. The Ionian Sea, Taormina and then beyond the mountains surrounding Etna, the Nebrodi and Madonie, the archipelago of the Aeolian Islands. The descent will take place between the sandy gullies or the Valle del Bove, places characterized by extraordinary lunar landscapes, up to the parking lot where we will say goodbye.
IMPORTANT NOTES: The excursion may be subject to changes based on weather conditions or civil protection forecasts at the sole discretion of the organization and/or guide. Due to the high altitude and physical effort required, the excursion is absolutely NOT permitted to people with heart problems or any other physical condition not suitable for hiking. For people over 50 years of age, a preventive cardiology visit is recommended.

8,30 MEETING POINT - ETNA NORTH PIANO PROVENZANA
At the meeting point we will have a briefing to meet your volcanological guide, to check the equipment and for the last details before departure. We recommend maximum punctuality because the transporters must leave at the scheduled times. Otherwise you could miss the excursion.

ASCENT WITH SPECIAL 4X4 VEHICLES
The first part of the climb is done with special 4×4 vehicles up to an altitude of about 2900 meters. The cost of this service is NOT included in the participation fee. Ticket for 4×4 bus (60€) from Etna Nord.

ASCENT TO THE SUMMIT CRATERS OR TO THE MAXIMUM ALTITUDE
After leaving the 4×4 vehicle, the ascent on foot will begin from 2900 m, to enjoy the spectacular scenery offered by this majestic volcano. In a journey of about 1,30 minutes we will reach one of the crater rims. You will be close to the summit area, the colors, the smells and the sounds of the main crater. From this altitude the panorama is surreal and extends over almost all of Sicily.

DESCENT ON FOOT ON THE SIDES OF THE VOLCANO
The descent will be on foot downhill to return to an altitude of 1800 m (parking). It will be an adrenaline-filled experience inside the channels of volcanic sand, volcanic caves, lava flows, extinct craters and much more. The return is scheduled between 13 and 14 approximately. Depending on the weather conditions and the tiredness of the group, the guide will have the right to use the 4x4 vehicles again for the descent. In this case an extra contribution of €10 may be required.

What should I bring?
Trekking shoes are mandatory for this excursion. Also recommended are: poles, sunglasses, windbreaker/sweatshirt, water. If you need them, you can use our rental where you will find shoes, jackets, poles and more.

Can I bring my dog?
On this excursion it is not possible to bring your 4-legged friend. We recommend that you consider other tours in our catalog where it is possible to bring your dog.

In case of bad weather?
It depends. If the conditions are not prohibitive, that is, it is cloudy or raining but there is a fair amount of visibility, the tours are usually carried out without any difficulty. In any case, the guide makes an assessment based on his/her experience and if the conditions are not right, he/she can decide to move or cancel the excursion in agreement with our guests. In case of cancellation due to bad weather, the membership fees paid will be refunded.
